The decision of the special prosecution authority SPAK to declare as defendant the mayor of Mallakastra, Qerim Ismailaj has been described as a welcome act towards clearing politics by the General Secretary of the Democratic Party (DP), Gazment Bardhi, who said that the DP only did its duty to the citizens by reporting it.
According to him, Socialist premier Edi Rama introduced into politics the model of the gangster politician, who stays in power in alliance with crime and this model should be undone through vetting in politics.
“The declaring as a defendant the illegitimate usurper of the Municipality of Mallakastra is a welcome act towards clearing politics. We showed with documents in the files sent to SPAK that his mandate was illegal; DP did only the duty to the citizens. We stand by our conviction that we can move forward towards development without corrupt and crime-related politicians,” Bardhi noted in a post released on FB by him on Monday.
The DP official, who is also deputy in the new parliament, said that the elected members of the parliament, the government and the municipality should be servants only of the interests of the citizens. “Edi Rama introduced into politics the model of the gangster politician, who stays in power in alliance with crime. This model must be undone through vetting in politics. Albanians deserve to be governed by politicians with integrity,” he said.
DP is pressing for the launch of the vetting process on the politicians as the majority is hesitant in accepting such a move.
