Intense rains of the last days have brought back the threat of floods in Albania. The most critical situation is in Vlora and Fier, south of the country. Currently 32 families have been evacuated in total, 17 of which in the area of Novosela and 15 in the village of Ferras in Fier.
Prime Minister Edi Rama announced on Sunday that all armed forces have been put on alert for the area affected by the outflow of the Vjosa River: “On the ground with all capacities and without interruption, in the area affected by the outflow of the Vjosa from its bed, as a result of heavy rainfall.”
On the other hand, the General Director of the National Civil Protection Agency, Haki Cako said the level is critical at the Mifol Bridge.
“It is being monitored by all local and central structures. We have made available the units of the Armed Forces, the police forces and all the structures of civil defense have been present throughout the night,” he said.
There are media reports about innundations in the northern areas like Lezha and Shkodra which are threatened by heavy rainfall every year. Also it has always been critical the situation on the Drini river Cascade but government has not provided any information what is happening there where it’s also raining heavily. / Argumentum.al
