Although it did not directly comment on Saturday’s developments in Tirana, where, on the one hand, the Democratic Party (DP) convened the National Assembly approving decisions including the expulsion from the party of political figures declared persona ‘non grata’
by the United States, while on the other hand the DP founder, Sali Berisha, a pick up of Washington to be the first President of Albania after the fall of communism in 1990s, organized the referendum for the dismissal of Lulzim Basha, the US Embassy has given its camouflaged message in support of Basha.
The American embassy in Tirana wrote on a Facebook post that the.Summit for Democracy, held in Washington only a few days ago, might have ended, but the work has just begun.
Albania was represented by Prime Minister Edi Rama in this virtual event making a speech.
Below is the full post released by the US Embassy on social networks on Saturday:
“The Summit fot Democracy might have ended, but our work is just beginning.
Together, we’re launching: partnerships to strengthen cooperation among democracies; new tools for accountability and transparency, and a position to coordinate global anti-corruption efforts.”
