“The decision taken by NATO to select this space as a new environment for addressing security challenges, transforming it into an Alliance tactical air base in the region, confirms the fact that small Albania is nevertheless an added value to this Alliance which brings together states that believe in certain values and principles that are worth fighting for.”
This comment was made by Prime Minister Edi Rama at the ceremony of launching the works for the realization of the project for the modernization of the air base of Kucova. The ceremony, which was held on Thursday, was attended by Rama, the Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi together with the US Ambassador, Yuri Kim and ambassadors of other countries accredited in Tirana.
According to Rama, Albania in the Balkans, especially in the Western Balkans, is becoming a country of critical importance. He stressed that the decision made by NATO to select this space as a new environment for addressing security challenges confirms the fact that small Albania is nevertheless an added value to this Alliance.
The turning of Kucova air base into a NATO air base was considered by Prime Minister Edi Rama as an excellent opportunity for Albanian armed forces to build national capacity and modernize the air force.
“We are in a favorable position to bring this exercise back here in 2023 and our ambition is for this exercise to be a thread that connects every two years the overall activity of our armed forces in the framework of NATO,” said Rama. / Argumentum.al
