The residents of the neighborhood “5 Maji” in Tirana, whose houses are being demolished without permission, received the Prime Minister, Edi Rama in front of the Assembly on Thursday to ask for an agreement.
The Prime Minister met mother Lisa, who is already homeless, and other residents. Later, in a statement to the media, Rama promised that everyone will be compensated according to the law and will be treated the same as those who lost their homes because of the earthquake of November 26, 2019.
“I have clarified what has been true since day one. We had a long conversation. All residents, whether in the ‘5 Maji’ area or in the Ring Road, will have a solidarity treatment, just as it was done with those who lost their homes in the earthquake. Those who have proper documents will receive financial compensation or compensation with larger dwellings. For those without papers, the house will be demolished and the family receives home compensation. Until the days of getting the house, the rent bonus is paid by the state.”
Mother Liza demanded concrete actions, because as she said, she does not intend to give up.
“He takes the money from our taxes, the words take the wind. I cannot forgive my house to the state. I want the house as I had it. The prime minister has not given us any deadline, I want the mayor to come and sign the letters and then we will trust him,” said mother Liza.
“I explained to the mother that the residents will sit down and look at the letters and sign them because these people have shed effort and sweat,” Rama replied.
On her part, the Minister of Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku said that none of the residents affected by the Great Ring Road project will be left on the streets.
For days, the residents of “5 Maji” neighborhood have been protesting against the demolition of their dwellings to pave the way for the reconstruction project. There were protesters who were detained by police forces as they resisted them. / Argumentum.al
