President Ilir Meta has given a strong message, as the Parliament approved on Thursday the constitutional changes for the extension of the term of the Vetting bodies in the judiciary.
Both ruling Socialist Party and Democratic Party of Lulzim Basha voted in favor the extension of the Vetting mandate.
The head of state stressed that he will be strongly engaged in politics, so that, as he said, he will restore sovereignty to political life, where no one will dare to change the Constitution without a referendum.
“I have a very strong commitment to politics. It is much stronger than in December 1990 in order to restore political pluralism in Albania, which has been undermined and betrayed,” Meta said in a statement released on social networks on Friday.
According to him, the deserved space will be given to the people.
“We will restore sovereignty over political life, so that no Parliament with 140 deputies will dare to change the Constitution without a referendum,” stressed Meta.
President has blasted the latest constitunal amendments against the background of the drive of the majority to dismiss him a ruling to be made by the Constitutional Court in the next days.
Meta has been head of the Socialist Movement for Integration before taking the post of President.
