Drawing parallels to the pre- Second World War in Europe in 1938 as Hitler hit the Sudetenland, Austria, Czechoslovakia, etc., taking advantage of the hesitations, weaknesses, divisions of the democratic world, the deputy of the Democratic Party (DP), Tritan Shehu warned of an eventual Russian aggression against Ukraine.
“I asked the Albanian Parliament to come up with a clear statement on this,” Shehu, a former foreign minister, said in an interview on Ora News TV on Sunday.
He said Russia today is seeking to take advantage of the weaknesses of NATO, the US, Western chaos.
“Undoubtedly the defeat and abandonment of Afghanistan have given courage to Russia,” he believed.
In addition to its role as a member of NATO Albania should review its policies in the region to become more realistic and play an important role, Shehu said calling the “Open Balkans” an adventure which has diminished the role of the country letting Serbia in charge of the region. According to him, this has created confusion and division among Albanians as well.
“It is leading us to Russia also through the Euro-Asian Union, increasing Moscow’s appetites, and so it must end. For Albania, our strategic partnerships and alliances should be established only with the Western World, seeking to have normal relations with others,” said the former top diplomat. / Argumentum.al
