Kosovo Police announced on Saturday that they have sent “logistical equipment and containers” to the Bernjak border crossing, which, as it said, will serve the border police. The announcement quoted by REL said that the Kosovo Police “are working exclusively in the interest of the safety of citizens and the creation of a safe environment.”
Brnjak is located in the north of Kosovo – an area inhabited by a Serb majority.
Following the launch of the Russian offensive in Ukraine, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti said they had taken additional security measures. It was reported that they had met with representatives of security mechanisms – local and international – but no details were given about either the meetings or the measures.
The Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo said on Saturday that “the latest police action in northern Kosovo is contrary to valid agreements.” The purpose of this action, according to it, is “dangerous provocation” and “destabilization of the situation on the ground.”
The statement of this office noted that the Kosovo Police has brought “heavy machinery and people” under the “pretext of strengthening the police checkpoint at the crossing” 80 meters from the crossing in Brnjak.
“Such unilateral and irresponsible actions of Pristina have only one goal: to provoke a new destabilization of the situation on the ground at a very sensitive moment for security, which the whole world is facing,” the statement said. The statement called on Pristina not to provoke Belgrade and Serbs in Kosovo and not to endanger peace and security by violating the agreement. / Argumentum.al
