Former Speaker says there are unknowns how Basha got leadership of DP

The current head of the Democratic Party (DP), Lulzim Basha looked like an alien in the party and his arrival seems artificial, said former Speaker of the Albanian Parliament Jozefina Topalli in a talk show on a local TV on Monday.
“We believed that we were there for the public interest. I deeply believed this and we thought that we were servants to Albania and Albanians. I did not find any of these features in Basha; he looked like a foreign body in the DP, his arrival was artificial. He had no contributions to the Democratic Party,” said Topalli who was one of the highest figures in the DP leadership led by Sali Berisha. Basha succeeded to oust her from the party hierarchy and she quit the DP.
“It is not true that I did not like young people, but this was the propaganda of the gentleman (Basha). He became a member of the party in a month, he became a member of the National Council, he became a minister, he got it all. Basha was left with a special lane. There are unknowns about Lulzim Basha. Albanians do not know what happened with him before 2005. There was something wrong behind his smile,” said Topalli. /argumentum.al
