The State Police has taken a series of measures to secure the March 6 elections for mayor in some local government units and to guarantee a smoother voting process for all voters, has said a senior police officer in a press conference.
The Director of Public Order in the State Police, Ylli Vasili, said on Friday that “the preparation of these measures started on January 27, 2022 with the drafting of tasks in the Work Program, approved by the General Director of the State Police, the preparation of the orders of the General Director of the State Police, the plans of measures and interaction and other documents that complete our measures and the implementation of institutional tasks for the electoral process.”
He announced that all central and local structures of the Police will go on standby “Enhanced Service” to ensure public order and hold elections mainly starting from Saturday onwards until the announcement of the final results of the elections in 6 municipalities.
Special emphasis, he continued, was given to the training of 1,297 State Police employees, who will be engaged in duties during the elections, according to the police management hierarchy, up to the basic level of police action.
“Cooperation with the OSCE and other international institutions, which monitor the elections, has been ongoing,” he said.
“Based on the obligation of the Electoral Code, March 5 will be a day of “electoral silence “and therefore, no political activities should be conducted by political entities, such as meetings, gatherings, etc. during this day,” he said. /Argumentum.al
