The Ambassador of Germany in Albania, Peter Zingraf has said that it is the choice of the Albanians who will vote for.
This was his answer after he was asked whether he shared the same opinion with US Ambassador Yuri Kim that Albanians should not vote for candidates supported by former Democrat leader Sali Berisha.
Berisha has been declared persona non grata by the US State Department and a real media war has broken out between Berisha and Kim.
“Let me not comment on the fact that whoever to vote for; it is up to the Albanian people to decide,” said the German ambassador during the communication with the journalists on Sunday.
During a meeting with polling station commissioners, Zingraf asked them if the situation was calmer than in the April elections, and received confirmation from them.
“All elections are very important for the country, for Albania. I personally am very curious to see the general atmosphere. I think it is a very good preparation for them. My arrival in Shkodra was accidental, it is a city where I come often,” said the German ambassador in Tirana, Peter Zingraf.
Local elections were held in 6 municipalities in Albania which started at 7 o’clock in the morning and ended at 19.00 on March 6. Other EU member countries’ ambassadors paid visits to the municipalities where the by elections were held. The turnout has been very low as 650,000 people were eligible to vote. / Argumentum.al
