The United States of America through the State Department (DASH) supports the start of Albania’s membership talks with the European Union. This was revealed by the chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the ruling Socialist Party, Taulant Balla after a meeting with the Director of the Office of Central and Southern European Affairs at the US State Department Martin McDowell through a post on the social network facebook on Sunday.
It is not said where and when the meeting was held.
“The United States of America through DASH supports the start of Albania’s membership talks with the European Union. I thanked Mr. McDowell for their diplomatic efforts to hold the First Intergovernmental Conference between the EU and Albania and North Macedonia as soon as possible,” said Balla in the post. Regarding Russian aggression against Ukraine, Balla noted that as US President Joe Biden said, “Democracies are rising to the moment, uniting the world on the side of peace and security. We are showing our strength and we will not waver.”
Albania’s accession talks with EU are deadlocked because of the Bulgarian veto on North Macedonia as the two Western Balkans countries are both in the waiting room to go ahead along the integration process with the Union.
