In a momentous return to the headquarters of the Democratic Party (DP), which he founded in the early 1990s, Sali Berisha launched an appeal to the democrats of Albania to reach out to each other and unite for the greater interest of the country, Albanian nation and society on Friday.
According to him, the DP is the party of all Democrats and no one is expelled from it. “The court decision finally legitimized the historic decisions of the December 11 Assembly of the Democratic Party. Those decisions have brought back the Democratic Party as a party of free voting, conservative values at its core; it is reconfirmed as a party of Euro-Atlantic orientation and national interest,” he stressed.
Berisha said he had assured all democrats to have confidence in the DP Re-establishment Commission and anyone could run for any post he wanted.
Further he said that this is a positive process, which has been hindered to some extent by the relationship they had with the DP chairman, Lulzim Basha but now he has resigned. The logo was created, which unfairly, as it turned out on March 6, was not given to the DP. Today these factors no longer exist. Today the DP has an official logo registered in court. Today, the Democratic Party has a statute adopted by an unprecedented assembly in its history and perhaps in the history of Europe,” said Berisha.
The ex-PM also spoke about the meeting with the temporary DP head, Enkelejd Alibeaj at the DP headquarters, saying that it was not a handshake, but a discussion about the problems.
“In this discussion, I asked for their commitment to the process of uniting the DP. I can say that I found them preoccupied with this process, but of course there are differences of opinions,” he said. /Argumentum.al
