No new affected areas by the bird flu have been found in Albania during the last 24 hours, announced the deputy minister of agriculture, Ermira Gjeci in a press conference on Saturday.
She said that controls have been carried out throughout the country, adding that they are also cooperating with the local government to take measures to stop the trade of live chickens in unapproved open spaces.
“The process of elimination and burial of dead poultry continues across the country according to the Contingency Plan and relevant protocols applying the rules of animal welfare to the maximum of real logistical possibilities… The situation is healthy, as there are no other suspected areas,” said Gjeci.
The Deputy Minister added that the National Food Authority is continuing regular inspections throughout the country and no violations or problems have been found.
“Currently we do not have any new confirmed cases. There is not any farm where there are infections and measures have been taken to control the movement of birds from farm to farm and from farm to market, respectively for the region of Durres, Dibra, Korca and Fier,” she said.
Gjeci said that the awareness campaign to inform farmers on the identification and reporting of suspected cases continues throughout Albania. /Argumentum.al
