TIRANA, March 29 – Citizens gathered again in the square in front of the prime minister’s office in Tirana to protest against the price increase claiming it is a new form of protest during which the well known old woman protester so called ‘Mother Liza’ was sent away by some protesters on Tuesday.
The representative of “Civic Resistance”, Migen Qiraxhi, said that they had decided that the protest should focus mostly on slogans and added that their goal is to put pressure on the government, so that prices undergo a normalization.
“To have a new form of communication, we have reasoned and announced that today will be a day without speeches,” he said. “The important thing is that engaged citizens and social groups are here to show the will that we stand for,” said Qiriazi who was not worried by the low number of protesters.
But what has drawn the attention is that some protesters sent away ‘Mother Liza’, who was present as in other protests. But as she tried to speak and was calling for more people to come out in numbers against the government, a woman approached her and sent her away.
“We are not here for your house, go away. We have another cause,” said the woman. Meanwhile, mother Liza tried to speak again, but left as the woman and a man accompanying her forced the old woman to go away.
This kind of behavior towards an old woman protester and the low number of participants and the scenario show that the civil society has got cracks following the pattern of the political parties.
