TIRANA, March 30 – Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has said that he will be part of the meeting of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party (DP) although he has not officially received an invitation.
Berisha said that he will be present due to the obligation he has from the Assembly of December 11.
But DP MP Gazment Bardhi, loyal to Basha, responded to Berisha by saying MPs should have the right to make their own assessment of whether or not a person declared non grata from the US should be part of the group.
“The first to be in that meeting is Sali Berisha. Sali Berisha has an absolute major obligation from the Assembly of December 11, confirmed by the referendum of December 18 and the elections of March 6. I do not know if Mr. Alibeaj (head of DP parliamentary group) has said so and if he has authorized you (Bardhi),” he said.
According to Berisha, there is no divided group, there is a parliamentary group. “My colleagues have informed me that there are meetings and I will go, it’s normal,” said Berisha.
Berisha was excluded by former DP head Lulzim Basha from the parliamentary group as advised by US Ambassador Yuri Kim who has declared that if persona non grata lead the DP the embassy would cut any links.
It remains to be seen Thursday’s meeting of the parliamentary group what will happen.
