According to preliminary results, Albanians will be represented by only one deputy in the Serbian Parliament, and the only voice will be Shaip Kamberi.
The “Coalition of Albanians of the valley” led by Kamberi, who has so far held the post of MP, received 0.28% percent of the votes in the parliamentary elections held on April 3 in Serbia.
The expectation of the Albanian parties was to secure over 3 deputies in these elections. The “Coalition of Albanians of the valley” led by Kamberi and the “Albanian Democratic Alternative” led by Shqiprim Arifi, former chairman of the municipality of Presevo, competed separately in the elections.
After the 2020 elections, Albanians in the Presevo Valley were represented by three deputies in Serbia’s 250-seat parliament. Unlike the 2020 poll when they were put together on a list to participate in the parliamentary elections in Serbia, this time they were divided into two coalitions, which has apparently caused the loss of the two seats.
In the meantime Serbia’s leader Aleksandar Vucic achieved a landslide victory being reelected.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday congratulated Vucic on his reelection victory and said he hoped to build on their “strategic partnership”, the Kremlin said as quoted by FRANCE 24 reporting from Belgrade.
