TIRANA, April 13 – Families that consume more than 700 kilowatts will pay for the extra energy according to the price market, which is three times higher than the current one, according to the Minister of Energy, Belinda Balluku.
Balluku unveiled on Wednesday that the government is nearing the end of the in-depth study to determine a household’s normal energy needs to then decide the protected energy price segment by the government.
After the government meeting, Balluku stated that the protected segment for the price of energy consumed by a household is projected by the government to be approximately around 700 kilowatts, but there is still no official decision.
“We are at the end of a new analysis that shows how many kilowatt-hours a family needs to have as normal consumption, that is to have household appliances, average heating and other needs of a family. According to the calculations approximately 700 kilowatts are needed for a family with 4-5 members. However, I emphasize that this is not the final designation of the segment of consumers that will pay a higher price,” said Balluku.
The Minister announced that small businesses will continue to be protected by the government.
This is a change of the previous promise made by PM Edi Rama who pledged that the energy price for the households will not change while the rich people will pay more. Balluku said that scheme was not appropriate because of the division between poor and rich. It should be expected to see what she meant because the difference between poor and rich is very obvious in Albania, considered as the poorest country in Europe. /Argumentum.al
