TIRANA, April 20 – President Ilir Meta has reacted to the report of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding the forecast of economic growth of Albania. Meta said that the report shows how serious the issue is considering the situation as alarming.
“A serious concern and an alarm for the Government, the Assembly and the whole society is the dark forecast made by the IMF for the economic growth of Albania for this year,” said the President in his comment posted on social media on Wednesday.
The IMF forecast a 2.5 percentage point decrease from the 4.5% expectations. “With a growth rate of 2% for this year and that can be revisited in the ongoing downturn, Albania has the lowest growth in the region, which could degrade into economic stagnation,” said the head of state.
According to him, the figures with a decrease in expected economic growth of 2.5% are even much lower than the decrease globally for 2022, which is expected to be only 0.5%.
“The blockers of the country’s economic growth are the financing of unproductive investments from the budget, low efficiency of investments due to corruption, which erodes their value, not allowing private investments in energy, monopolization of the economy, and the consequences of galloping growth. of prices,” stressed President Meta. /Argumentum.al
