TIRANA, May 23 – The second round of the presidential election, as expected, had the same fate as the first: it failed after the opposition represented by a faction of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party (DP) did not submit any candidacy within the deadline, which was on Sunday at 16:00.
MP Enkelejd Alibeaj who leads the faction withdrew from the nomination proposal, after the Socialist Party (SP) made it clear that it would not sign opposition candidates and that the right-wing camp would have to find the 20 signatories themselves.
If the opposition continues not to formally nominate candidates for the presidency, then a simple majority in the fourth ballot will give the country a new head of state. The plenary session was held on Monday afternoon, where the second round was considered over, and according to the procedures provided, the Conference of Chairmen will determine the holding of the third round, which is the last one that requires 84 votes for the election of the president. /Argumentum.al
