TIRANA, May 28 – Grief and pain were expressed by the Albanian state and government leaders and representatives of the political class and foreign embassies upon the death of the former President of Albania, Bujar Nishani on Saturday.
“I received the news of the death of President Bujar Nishani with deep sadness and grief. The deepest condolences to his wife Odeta, children Ersi and Fiona, and relatives for this great loss, “said President Ilir Meta in a message of condolences.
According to Meta, President Nishani will always be remembered as a personality with rare values of a leader with integrity and vision. “His contribution to Albania and democracy will always be remembered with respect. Unforgettable memory of President Nishani, “said President Meta.
Democratic Party (DP) Chairman Sali Berisha, one of his closest collaborators, expressed his condolences to the family, friends and relatives for the death of former President Nishani.
“Former President Bujar Nishani was an icon of the highest moral values of man, honesty, patriotism and dedication. He was a prominent statesman, who represented the nation and Albania with special dignity and wisdom in the international arena, giving honor and value to the institution of the president, the state and the Albanian citizens,” said Berisha.
He said that Nishani was also an excellent and efficient and beloved leader of the Democratic Party, MP, minister, and candidate voted for president of the Republic by the majority of this party.
Among those who expressed condolences was also PM Edi Rama, who said: “Rest in peace! Condolences to the family! ”
The US Embassy also expressed its condolences for the death of former President Nishani expressing grief over his death in a message released on social networks. It stressed that his contribution to the Democratic Party, the development of Albania and relations with the US, will be remembered by all.
