TIRANA, June 11 – The governing Socialist Party (SP) will celebrate on Sunday the 31st anniversary of its abandonment of the platform of the former communist Party of Labor of Albania and as it is reported former members of the leadership are in the list of the invitees.
Among these invitations, one went to the chairwoman of the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI), Monika Kryemadhi, who once represented the SP ally. She is the wife of the outgoing President, Ilir Meta who has announced that he will take the leadership of SMI, which he has founded, after ending the presidential mandate on July 24, 2022.
Local media sources confirmed that the invitation was welcomed by the SMI leadership, but it seems that Kryemadhi will not attend the ceremony. It is learned that the vice chairwoman, Erisa Xhixho and the other senior official, Endrit Braimllari, will be present at the celebration.
Meanwhile, sources from the Democratic Party (DP) said that the self-declared head, Enkelejd Alibeaj has not received an invitation, as he is recognized by the Rama government as the chairman of the parliamentary group of Democrats.
The agenda of the festivities include a reception in the SP courtyard on Sunday evening many political figures, not just of the left, will be reportedly guests.
But the participation of SMI senior officials has given rise to new supposition that there might be a thaw between SP and SMI.
When asked about a ‘betrayal’ of Meta after taking SMI leadership DP chairman Sali Berisha denied it saying he did not think of a new deal between Rama and Meta.
