TIRANA, June 15 – President Ilir Meta has reacted regarding the concern raised by defense lawyers and citizens over the new court map that brings the dissolution of 18 courts in Albania.
Meta stressed on Wednesday that given the small number of judges in the judicial system today, but also the high number of pending court cases, if the new court map is finally approved according to the proposal of the High Judicial Council, then Albanians will naturally have serious violation of the fundamental rights and freedoms of the individual, specially protected by the Constitution.
In addition there will be restriction / violation of access to the justice system, increased costs for the citizen and real users of the courts, as well as all professions related to the judicial system. The President warned of a blow on the judicial system as a whole during the transitional phase and the concentration of final decision-making only in a few judges in Tirana.
“Because of the difficulties, the long waiting time for a decision, as well as the increase in the costs of following the judicial path, the loss of interest of the citizen to follow the legal path will significantly increase, and this naturally justifies the concern that it may lead to increased phenomenon of self-judgment,” said Meta.
According to the president, the citizens need a justice system, not only independent, but also fully functional and efficient. Meta said that again there is no full, objective and comprehensive commitment to take appropriate measures, legiefficieidand decision-making for the way to fill as quickly as possible and with quality all vacancies that have been created and will be created in the future in these courts.
