TIRANA, June 26 – “The deliberate anti-national agenda for the depopulation and bankruptcy of Albania is a clear fact. The tragic consequences are felt in every Albanian family and every sector.”
This comment was made by President Ilir Meta in a post on social networks after the news of VOA that 221,000 citizens have fled Albania over the last 5 years.
More Albanians than in any other government have left Albania in half of the 8-year rule of PM Edi Rama.
“It is the duty of all of us to unite without wasting time on a common national front to address with responsibility, patriotism and professionalism this great dramm and revive hope,” Meta said.
The President noted that it is urgently needed a clear and effective strategy that realistically and permanently fights the phenomena that leads to the abandonment of the country by Albanians, first guaranteeing standards of governance, democratic accountability at every level and listening to the voice of the citizens through referendums. President Meta closed the note with the following appeal: “Let us unite our energies to give Albania the deserved European direction and perspective! The time to build Europe in Albania is now!”
