TIRANA, June 29 – The General Council of the Albanian Chamber of Advocates has taken the decision to boycott court hearings indefinitely. The decision was taken to reject the new court map of Albania because, according to lawyers, it severely affects citizens’ access to the justice system and significantly increases costs.
The council has even decided to take penal measures for lawyers who do not respect the boycott. The unanimous decision was taken on Wednesday at the meeting of the Chamber of Advocates in Tirana.
The novelty lies precisely in the arrest measures which will be boycotted starting on Wednesday until the next ten days, and then a second decision will be made.
The boycott of lawyers has led to the collapse of the justice system and the effects have been felt even in Gjirokastra, where the total boycott for court hearings in the four district courts has been going on for 3 weeks.
