TIRANA, July 2 – President Ilir Meta has commemorated July 2, 1990, when Albanians broke the isolation of the dictatorship to give the country a new and irreversible direction.
“Freedom is built on courage! Gratitude to Ylli Bodinaku and all Albanians who, in the name of freedom, democracy and an Albania like all of Europe, heroically broke the isolation of the dictatorship on July 2, 1990 to give the country a new and irreversible direction,” said President in a note on social networks on Saturday.
Meta said that “the journey towards Europe, which started with the courage to tear down the wall of the German embassy, must be accelerated with the determination to go towards full membership in the EU.”
“Building a future many times better than the three decades that passed after the ‘Embassy Events’ is guaranteed only if we resolutely implement the required reforms, restore accountability at every level and listen to the voice of citizens through referendums. That road is fast and is only in our hands!” he said.
The time to build Europe in Albania is now, said the President, Mete.
