TIRANA, August 6 – The police unit of the Border Surveillance Police Station (SPMK) Zubin Potok was attacked with firearms in Lake Ujman in the north of Kosovo on Saturday.
The police unit announced that there were shots fired at them. According to the police, there were approximately 10 gunshots, KosovaPress said.
“The shots were consecutive from the other part of the lake and they hit near the police boat. No one was injured from these shots,” the police announced.
The municipalities in the north of Kosovo, such as North Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Zveçan and Leposaviq, are inhabited by a majority of Serbs. The event comes only a few days after the tensions flared up in the north of Kosovo after the decision of Kosovo authorities to implement the reciprocity of license plates and identity cards for the Serbs of the north. The latter blocked the roads in protest using heavy tonnage vehicles.
There were reports that the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic intended to escalate the conflict, but a NATO warning as confirmed by sources of the Alliance and Serbian opposition politicians made Vucic drop the aggressive plan.
In the meantime it is reported that Vucic and Kosovo PM Albin Kurti will meet in Brussels on August 18. /Argumentum.al
