TIRANA, August 16 – Dialogue with Serbia is the only way to make it clear that the reality of independent Kosovo is irreversible and unchangeable. This was the message that the President of Albania, Bajram Begaj conveyed to the leaders of the Kosovo parliamentary opposition and representatives of the minority parties in the meetings with them on the second day of his visit to Pristina on Tuesday.
Begaj underlined that he fully supports Kosovo’s legitimate right to extend authority and establish the rule of law in the north of the country, in cooperation with the USA and the EU.
In addition, Begaj underlined as very important the dialogue and common attitude between all the political factors in Kosovo regarding major challenges that the country is facing.
For President Begaj, the inter-parliamentary and inter-institutional cooperation between Albania and Kosovo must be continued with intensive and measurable work for the implementation of all bilateral agreements as well as the increase of cooperation in the field of security, especially in food and energy.
Leaders of the opposition parties appreciated Albania’s support in Kosovo’s ‘journey’ as well as the decision made on Monday for the electricity supply of Kosovo.
In the meantime it is reported that Begaj did not hold a meeting with the leaders of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), because, according to it, Albania’s president refused to meet the leaders of the LDK at the party’s headquarters. All the meetings with the opposition parties were held separately at the premises of the Assembly
“The Democratic League of Kosovo expresses regret for not holding the official meeting with the new President of Albania, His Excellency Bajram Begaj, on the occasion of his first visit to Kosovo. President Begaj has refused to meet the LDK at its headquarters,” said a press release issued by LDK.
In the meantime there is no reaction by the presidential office regarding the proposal of Kosovo President Osmani regarding a joint military treaty between Kosovo and Albania. Such an issue has become a point of discussion among the public opinion of Albania because this country has many agreements of this kind and even strategic partnership accords with some countries.
