TIRANA, September 25 – The Chairman of the Freedom Party (FP), Ilir Meta, informed on Sunday about the topics of discussion in the meeting he held with the US ambassador to Tirana, Yuri Kim.
“I cannot tell you what the ambassador’s messages were. They speak for themselves if they have something to say. But I can tell you what I told the ambassador. I told her my opinion about declaring Berisha ‘non grata’. I expressed my conviction that this is the work of (former DP chairman) Lulzim Basha and (PM) Edi Rama in cooperation,” said Meta, a former president.
Meta highlighted all the wrong decisions that Basha had taken in coordination with Rama before, including the boycott of the justice reform and of the parliament. According to him, Basha has put the blame for all those on current DP chairman Sali Berisha.
Regarding the declaration of Berisha ‘non grata’, Meta said that this is an act and decision of the US that we do not have to discuss.
“I told the ambassador to say in Washington that I personally appreciate the positive effect of this decision, for which I was not and I do not agree because I do not appreciate it as deserved and proportional, that without such a decision we would still have Lulzim Basha as the chairman of the DP,” said Meta.
He added that “we do not make a choice between Berisha and America, or DP and the US.”
Meta noted that FP has its program that is 100% independent from DP itself. “We respect the decisions taken by the supporters of the DP voters. We do not interfere in the processes of their elections and we stand by our program to fulfill 100% our obligations to the strategic partnership with the US and at the same time to speed up priority reforms in the field of the rule of law, the fight against corruption and organized crime., which are key to the opening of (EU) negotiations,” said Meta. /Argumentum.al
