TIRANA, September 15 – China is ready to work with Russia in extending strong support to each other on issues concerning their respective core interests, Chinese President Xi Jinping said during a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on Thursday as quoted by Xinhua news agency.
The meeting was held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), which started its two- day deliberations on Thursday.
Xi and Putin were speaking at their first face-to-face meeting since they declared in February, shortly before the break up of the Ukraine war, that their countries enjoyed a “no-limits” friendship.
The leaders praised the close relationship between the two countries in their short public statements before the closed-door talks.
“The Chinese president also said China and Russia should expand pragmatic cooperation, safeguard security and interests of the region, and preserve the common interests of developing countries and emerging market countries,” Xinhua said. Its report added that Xi had said China was willing to deepen pragmatic cooperation with Russia in trade, agriculture and connectivity. /Argumentum.al
