TIRANA, September 19 – The chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha, declared on Monday in a meeting with the residents of Puka and Fushë-Arrëz, northern Albania, that the government uses poverty as a means to subjugate people.
“Each public work costs 5 to 8 times and even 10 times more than it really costs… Three million euros are spent to build 1 kilometer of road or highway. As much as 22 million euros were procured for the construction of 1 km in Albania,” said Berisha.
Further he said that the government of Edi Rama uses poverty as a tool to subjugate people and the natural resources of the country are not used for the benefit of the citizens. “You are the district with the biggest contribution to energy in Albania, you have the weakest network. You don’t get a cent from the power that is produced by this district.”
Focusing on the affair of the incinerators, the leader of the DP stated that PM Edi Rama signed a contract with a closed procedure that is in flagrant contradiction with the law.
“You have heard about the big affair of incinerators. He has signed himself contracts worth 420 million euros and he said in front of the commission that the files come to him straight away and he signs them on the spot, but the prime minister can never sign like that,” said Berisha, a former premier.
Speaking of the increase of the prices, Berisha said the prices have become another mechanism to steal the citizens. “The price of bread increased in Albania more than in any other country. Albanians are the people who consume more bread than in any other European country. I say this because such an increase is a heavy burden on the citizens. Oil in North Macedonia costs 700-800 lek less than in Albania,” said the DP chairman.
