TIRANA, September 23 – “This fall will be the fall of strikes, protests, peaceful revolts, civil disobedience. This is the most fundamental condition to bring back the country to normality.”
The above statement seems like a common slogan of Democratic Party (DP) which, as a matter of fact, has warned of massive anti-government protests since long time, blaming former DP head Lulezim Bashar of the atrophisation of opposition.
But this time DP chairman Sali Berisha said in the usual weekly press conference on Friday that the dissatisfaction and revolt is very high on the agenda and the expectation is very high.
“Basha’s opposition will not be repeated. We are not at that stage. We have to do a lot of work on strikes, protests, civil disobedience. Of course, we need organization. We will start the battle with (PM) Edi Rama and Edi Rama feels this,” he said.
Further Berisha said that he would coordinate work with the Freedom Party (FP) for the opposition action.
“No kind of rivalry exists. Meetings are held, they are public and private. I am convinced that there will be very good relations and coordination with the Freedom Party. We are on the same wavelength and we will take all the necessary steps for the success of our protests in the coming season,” said DP head.
However there is no specific details when and how the ‘autumn of protests’ will bring the overthrow of Rama government, which has hit Albanians in the hardest way after the stratospheric increase of the energy price!
This autumn will likely be the test if this opposition has the stamina to survive on Albanian political scene or continue to become a more comfortable background of SP- led majority. DP and FP have the say in the expected struggle as the other opposition parties have turned into phantoms like the Republican Party.
Besides the speedy aggravation of the economic and social situation in the country, Berisha and Meta should show their supporters and ordinary Albanians that they can face and win over the super arrogant government head, who keeps humiliating them at the extreme.
They should bring back the hope that Rama’s castle can fall opening the way to a genuine revival of Albania.
