TIRANA, October 7 – The Energy Regulatory Authority (ERE) convened the board on Friday which discussed the change in the price of electriciy in Albania.
This meeting was held after the government decided not to apply the energy threshold of 800 kWh for households. During his speech, the head of the Board, Petrit Ahmetaj said that the price of KESH for OSHEE will not change for the month of October. The situation will be reviewedduring this month and it will be decided whether the 42 kilowatt price will be applied during the month of November to all consumers who exceed the 800 kilowatt band.”The price of KESH for OSHEE will not change. The price of energy will continue to be unchanged. ERE has made the decision on the legislation,” said the head of the board Ahmeti.
Such a decision was made by the entity after Prime Minister Edi Rama announced a few days ago that there is no change to the current energy prices during September.Nevertheless he hinted that the scheme might change in November depending on the energy situation. The decision not to change the current price for 800 kWh limit for households which should pay any excessive energy at the market price – 42 lek per 1 kWh – has caused frustration among people who warned massive protests. The opposition has taken the opportunity to make such a situation its cause. It remains to be seen what will happen in November, but one thing is clear: Albania will burst into protests if the scheme framed by Rama government of market price of energy for 800+1 kWh is applied in November. In addition all prices have skyrocketed and there is an unchecked retail market where prices keep going up everyery day. /Argumentum.al
