TIRANA, October 9 – Trade exchanges of Albania with Croatia are estimated at over 11 billion ALL during the eighth- month period in 2022, according to data published by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT). It said that exports amounted to over 5 billion ALL during the period January-August 2022 as compared to 1.8 billion ALL that were in the 8 months of 2021. Meantime imports jumped to 6.5 billion ALL from 5 billion lek that were the previous year.
Albania exports to Croatia aluminum, shoes, processed fish and vegetables, while it mainly imports oil, fish products, electrical transformers and chocolates. The most interesting fields for cooperation are energy, tourism, mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering, pharmaceutics, food, textile and footwear and especially construction.
Croatia is one of the most important countries in the Balkan region, as it is the axis that connects Tirana with Europe via the land route. Albania and Croatia are part of several strategic projects for the region, such as the Adriatic-Ionian corridor, also known as the Blue Corridor, the IAP (Ionian-Adriatic) gas pipeline, and they also have increased cooperation in the field of tourism and other areas of common interest.
Albania also presents great opportunities for investment, as the fiscal burden for foreign investors is among the lowest in the region. The Albanian government has established an agency (AIDA), which assists every foreign investor from the first steps. According to the National Business Center, there is a growing number of Croatian companies that invest or have their physical presence in Albania in areas such as industry, construction of tourist villages, marketing and trade, consulting, and information technology.
