TIRANA, October 21 – Albania, a recent example of the use of public authority for political purposes.
This is said at the top of the document signed by the members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which condemns the decision of the government of Albania to close Turkish schools.
For more than seven years, Turkish foreign policy has made it its mission to close educational institutions perceived as embarrassing to the Erdogan government, the signatories point out.
The Turkish president used the weight of his office to contact the Albanian authorities and other governments demanding the closure of schools founded by a certain group of Turkish citizens who were in opposition, the document further states.
In the meantime, they express concern that Albania, as a candidate country for joining the EU, does not respect the rule of law by politically deciding under external pressure and urgently request that the Parliamentary Assembly should follow this case calling on Albania to respect the rule of law. /Argumentum.al
