TIRANA, October 28 – The chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha said in a press conference on Friday that Albania is simmering from anger and its citizens are ready to take to the streets.
“Citizens, small businesses are anxiously waiting for tomorrow. Every Albanian family is frustrated because of the unaffordable prices of basic life products. Every young man sees in Edi Rama a hope-killer. Every pensioner cries in tears of misery because he doesn’t buy any medicine with his pension, etc.”, he said, adding that even the employees in public administration are unsatisfied by the salaries they get.
According to Berisha, thousands of officers and policemen have submitted their resignations, but Interior Minister Bledar Çuçi hides the reality.
Asked how PM Edi Rama will be removed from power, he said that the people have many ways, and that it will be the one they choose. Berisha said that “you can call the protest, but it is the protest that leads you,” referring to the protest called on November 12.
“The people have many ways, which one the people will choose is their right. Let’s call a protest, but the protest will lead,” he said.
Meanwhile, when asked if he will have similar agreements with the other opposition parties like the one signed with the Freedom Party on Thursday, Berisha affirmed that he will. “Every oppositionist is invited to the square to protest with the other citizens against this regime on November 12. As far as the elections are concerned, agreements will be signed with other parties, too,” he said.
In the meantime Berisha said Rama has made 137 charter trips spending 22 million euros. Berisha compared Prime Minister Rama with American President George Bush, who, according to him, has made half of the trips in the 8 years he has been in power.
“Let me inform you of the last statistic, which exceeds all imagination. He, like no other prime minister of Europe and the world, has allowed himself 137 flights by charter. In 8 years in his mandate, American President Bush has traveled with Air Force One 74 times,” said Berisha. /Argumentum.al
