TIRANA, November 23 – Defense Minister Niko Peleshi spoke on Wednesday about the flood situation in Albania, saying that it is improving. Some 3/4 of the flooded surface is free from water in Shkodra and Lezha, northern Albania, while he added that the attention has shifted to the south, where there are some problems with electricity.
“In Shkodra, 22 families with a number of 83 people have been evacuated, which is a decrease from the 318 evacuated at the beginning of the floods. The flooded area is 1305 ha,” he said.
According to him, in Lezha there are 4 houses with the presence of water and a flooded area of 1300 ha.
“We have a displacement of the floods towards the south due to the rains with considerable intensity and it is expected that we will have increased flows in the Shushica and Drino rivers. There is a problem in Gjirokastra where the strong wind has disconnected the power in some areas, and OSHEE is working to restore it,” said Peleshi.
In the meantime, the opposition has demanded the proclamation of the emergency situation but, according to the Democratic Party leadership, the government of Edi Rama does not accept because it does not want to compensate the inundated families. /Argumentum.al
