TIRANA, December 11 – In one of the harshest attacks against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha has said they will not allow Turkey to have the determining role in Albania.
The head of DP, Berisha, a former president and premier, made that comment at the ceremony of the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of DP on Sunday.
Berisha did not spare attacks on Prime Minister Edi Rama and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
“We never accept that Vucic dictates here. We never accept that the Sultan decides for Albania and that Turkey has a decisive role in Albania. If Turkey wants good relations with Albania, forget the determining role. The 500 years of its determining role have come to an end,” said Berisha, who is in bad terms with Erdogan.
The Turkish head of state has established excellent ties with current Socialist Party PM Edi Rama.
Berisha said that Albania is a member of NATO and Erdogan could appoint Edi Rama as governor of one of Turkey’s provinces.
“NATO and the EU are determining factors in this country, and the USA will undoubtedly play an important role,” said Berisha. /Argumentum.al
