TIRANA, December 16 – Altin Dumani will be in charge of the special prosecution authority against organized crime and corruption, SPAK, for the next 3 years.
In the race for the head of SPAK were Adnan Xholi, Altin Dumani and Edvin Kondili. Dumani got 5 votes, meanwhile Edvin Kondili got 4 votes and Adnan Xholi got 1 vote.
The session of the High Prosecution Council (KLP), which convened on Friday for the election of the new head of SPAK, lasted more than 5 hours.
The US ambassador, Yuri Kim was present at KLP during the process where the candidates revealed their platforms for the head of SPAK.
In a statement to the media shortly before the vote for the new head of SPAK Yuri Kim stated that there are many conspiracy theories regarding the election of the new head of this institution, but she said that she was present at the meeting of the KLP to show that this is a very important moment for justice reform in Albania.
Kim underlined that the US has no secret message regarding this process and that she did not come to tell anyone which of the prosecutors to vote for.
“I came to say exactly that, to emphasize that this is an important moment. I came to say that what’s important about this transition is the integrity of the process. I’m not here to tell anyone who he should vote for and who not to votshould.” Kim said. /Argumentum.al
