TIRANA, December 21 – Work on the construction of the new building of the National Theater, which will be named “Heart of Tirana”, began on Wednesday.
In the presence of well-known names of the theater scene, such as Robert Ndrenika, Tinka Kurti, etc., Prime Minister Edi Rama together with Mayor Erion Veliaj and the Minister of Culture inaugurated the start of the works.
The head of government called the much-debated theater project a precious masterpiece and very necessary to give artists a dignified stage.
“I had declared war on that building as early as 1998 when I became Minister of Culture, and a lot of time passed. But I believe that we would not have had this project that we have today. This project is another precious stone in a necklace of works that have taken Tirana out of the old framework,” he said.
At the foundation stone laying ceremony, the Mayor Erion Veliaj said that the theater will be built in its place and will be the biggest and most beautiful in the region.
The Danish architect Bjarke Ingles was also present, who gave more detailed details of the building.
But the opposition has rejected the launch of the works saying the decision to start work on the new National Theater is a flagrant violation of the decision of the Constitutional Court.
In his speech before the DP Parliamentary Group, the chief democrat, Sali Berisha took aim at Rama and Veliaj on Wednesday as he called on the builder of the new building not to be involved in this project, as the opposition people will not accept it. /Argumentum.al
