TIRANA, January 23 – President Bajram Begaj convened on Monday as it had been announced earlier the National Security Council to analyze the state of national security and priorities during 2023.
“The year we left behind was difficult and challenging for national security,” said the President in his speech, emphasizing that in July Albania faced one of the worst cyber attacks sponsored by the state structure of Iran.”It did not only cause problems in the digital infrastructure in the country, but it was accompanied with obvious political goals to cause instability.”
Begaj also said that, during 2022, the country went through difficult situations related to floods during the winter period; a difficult situation has been created these last two weeks, as well as the fires during the summer period.
According to him, there has also been an infringement of public security by criminal phenomena, illegal activities of drug trafficking, organized crime, corruption, immigration, etc. “All these have had a negative impact on economic development and the increase in the well-being of citizens,” he said.
Begaj also spoke on the ‘very delicate’ situation in northern Kosovo. “Albania is at the side of Kosovo and appreciates the preservation of the inviolability and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kosovo, appreciates the role and contribution of NATO’s KFOR mission in guaranteeing peace and security,” he said adding that Albania supports and encourages dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo mediated by the European Union and supported by the US.
The President said that the meeting will guarantee the coordination of efforts and the efficient use of national resources in the function of security, freedom and well-being.
The meeting was attended by PM Edi Rama, ministers of the line, and other heads of relevant government bodies. /Argumentum.al
