TIRANA, January 25 – Prime Minister Edi Rama has given details about the relationship with former FBI official Charles McGonigal, who is facing two charges in the USA, among them one related to Albania.
Rama rejected his previous statement when he said that he was a friend of the former official, while now he stated that he was talking about a “friendly relationship”.
Asked about allowing the creation of a parliamentary commission through which the connection between Prime Minister Rama and the government can be investigated, Rama said that the American judiciary has spoken about the issue and that this cannot be disputed by those whom he called “The Pulpit” and “Seal”.
“It would be better to spend more time than I have given to the stones that are thrown into the river in order to do more work and solve more people’s problems. It is a media and political Big Brother climate, everyone likes and shares without paying attention to whether they are true,” he said.
Asked about his statement that McGonigal was his friend, Rama said: “The word friend is too big. I have talked about the nature of the relationship in the English language, “Friendly relationship”. I met him in the most important office of the FBI in New York where he gave me a medal and a hat that was rumored in the political Big Brother as bugs, but we did not exchange opinions on the areas in which he was an expert.”
Further Rama said he does not notify the American embassy when he meets Americans and that he had met the highest officials of the FBI. “I also met the US president and the fact that he is under investigation or not has nothing to do with me. I am very glad to have met him. All this is absurd. In the indictment there is nothing related to me or the government except meetings,” he said, denying reports on money given to the former FBI chief. /Argumentum.al
