TIRANA, January 21 – The Special Prosecutor’s Office, SPAK has started verifications for the “McGonigal” case, the former FBI official connected to Prime Minister Edi Rama, arrested in New York a few days ago.
The decision released on Tuesday comes after the official request of the deputy of the Democratic Party (DP), Gazment Bardhi to SPAK to start investigations against Prime Minister Edi Rama for corruption of foreign public servants, false declaration of assets, and money laundering.
It seems that this official request has set SPAK in motion. The head of SPAK Altin Dumani informed MP Bardhi on Monday that it is required to make available the initial materials of American justice that can be made available by him for “investigative needs”.
In the letter of the head of SPAK, it is requested to make available the indictment of the District of Columbia Prosecutor’s Office, dated 09.15.2022.
Charles McGonigal became one of the highest FBI officials to be indicted in the entire history of the famous agency after investigators discovered that he benefited from large sums of money from a Russian oligarch and from an Albanian.
He has benefited from expense-covered trips to Tirana, Kosovo and Bosnia, expenses that appear to have been covered by an Albanian, while meetings with Rama appear to have been organized by another Albanian, who is described as Rama’s “informal adviser”. /Argumentum.al
