TIRANA, February 4 – Now that Albania has opened negotiations with the EU, the real work will begin and Sweden has prepared Albania for 20 years for this process and its success is the Swedish success because we have been waiting for this to happen, said the Ambassador of Sweden in Tirana Elsa Hastad in a television interview.
According to her, Sweden has supported the entire Western Balkans and 500 million euros have been given for a period of 7 years only in preparation for EU membership.
She appreciated the fact that Albania was among the first countries that supported Sweden’s membership in NATO. “We are happy to help Albania become a member of the European Union, because it is in our interest to help you.”
Focusing on the progress of the justice reform, Hastad said that many things have been done in the justice reform. “I think it is very important that ordinary citizens have access to the justice system,” she said.
Speaking about the May 14 local power elections, the Swedish Ambassador said that the elections lie at the heart of democracy and everyone is watching Albania now.
“Europe is watching, Sweden is watching, because your progress is our progress. Elections are extremely important. My message is: Vote! Do not sell the vote, do not buy the vote, do not waste it! Use it!” said Ambassador Hastad. /Argumentum.al
