TIRANA, February 14 – Prime Minister Edi Rama took part on Tuesday in the “World Governance Summit 2023” in Dubai, where he emphasized the much appreciated case of Albania on the role of women in governance and society of the 21st century.
Rama, together with Dubai Abulhoul, who is the director and founder of the “Fiker” Institute, held a conversation on the impact of women’s engagement at the highest decision-making levels in governance.
Rama said that there are over 70% women in the composition of his government. “It came naturally when I created the first government. I wanted to have it 50% with 50%. But then with the continuation of the work and trying to select the right man for the right job, I realized that there were more women than men who were suitable for the work done,” said Rama.
Regarding the issue of women’s rights and empowerment, Rama said that “if you don’t put yourself in the other person’s place, you run the risk of overdoing it, even when you are pushed by good will or good intentions.”
Prime Minister Rama said that we see that there is more and more space for women at the decision-making levels and it is not only at the ministerial levels, but also the deputy ministers, at the directorate levels and so on.
Rama further said that he found it very interesting that even though men have this reputation of being strong, of sticking to their convictions, they are more inclined to say “yes” to another man’s authority without discussing it, but at the same time they are not good for producing results.
“It is different with women! Even though they are seen as suppressed they tell you ‘No!’,” said Rama. /Argumentum.al
