TIRANA, February 14 – Some 70 Albanians have died as a result of the catastrophic earthquake in Kahramanmaras, Turkey, while three more in Hatay. This is what Evren Kaya, the chairman of the Association of Culture and Solidarity of Albanians, has said as quoted by KosovaPress on Tuesday.
According to him, so far only one Albanian family has been brought out alive from the ruins. He criticized the Embassy of Kosovo in Turkey, saying that they are not helping the families affected by the earthquake.
Evren Kaya, who said that they are traveling from Adana, noted that they are receiving aid from several countries to help Albanians in Turkey.
“Now in Kahramanmaras 70 Albanians have died. Even in Hatay, three Albanian people have died. I saw them there on Facebook and I’m telling you what I heard… Now for food it’s not a problem, but to warm up it’s too cold. The state is sending the stoves as much as it can. Some cannot get in touch with us but we are helping them as much as we can,” he told KosovaPress.
He shows that many of the Albanians who live in these places affected by the earthquake are afraid to return to their homes.
More than 37,000 people have lost their lives so far from the 7.8-magnitude earthquake which hit Turkey on February 6. /Argumentum.al
