Answering a media question on Thursday if he had pressure from the American Ambassador not to have a coalition with Mr. Sali Berisha because he has been sanctioned by the US and has been declared “non grata” and there may also be a sanction against him, Meta said the following: “This is zero truth because my relations with the United States have been and are always very open and very principled. I had no intention and I have no influence on their decisions, which are their responsibility and at the same time, I have always made my decisions based on the most democratic principles that our Constitution has, but you can be sure that the American Constitution that has inspired us and always inspires has those principles. So no pressure.”
Meta said that on the contrary they had a very constructive conversation and the United States is very interested in an opposition as powerful as possible because they are interested in the functioning of the accountability system in the country.
