TIRANA, March 9 – The Central Election Commission (CEC) held on Thursday the meeting for the registration of several political parties and the review of two requests for the registration of the Democratic Party (DP) in the May 14 elections.
In his speech, the State Commissioner of Elections Ilirjan Celibashi said that “we are faced with two requests for the registration of the political party “Democratic Party of Albania”.”
In his reasoning, Celibashi said that “it is the document that comes from the Court of Tirana that determines who is the leader of a political party and this is clear and it is pointless to continue discussions.”
“In Article 9 for political parties, it is stated that the registration of political parties takes place in the Court of First Instance of the Tirana Judicial District, which maintains the register of political parties. And further, the provision continues: In the register of political parties, the ordinal number of the register and the full name of the party, the name of the chairman are noted,” said Celibashi, citing the law on political parties.
Celibashi said that Lulzim Basha has the right to request the registration of the party in the 2023 elections, based on the official documents that have been submitted to the CEC, since he is the chairman of the DP according to the law.
Likewise, Celibashi argues that the request for registration of the Democratic Party in the May 14 elections should have been submitted by the chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha.
The State Election Commissioner, at the end of the review of this request, gave 48 hours to the legal representative of the Democratic Party Indri Sefa to complete the documentation of the request of the “Partia Demokratike” party, chaired by Lulzim Basha.
Also, the CEC rejected the request to be registered as an electoral subject of the party “Democratic Party of Albania”, filed by the party’s chairman Sali Berisha. /Argumentum.al
