TIRANA, March 13 – The chairman of the Freedom Party (FP), Ilir Meta held a meeting at the DP headquarters on Monday with the chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha, a meeting that lasted about an hour. Meta, who was accompanied by his deputy Petrit Vasili at the meeting, told the media that these are meetings in the framework of the coordination for the May 14 local elections.
“We are on the eve of the campaign and these meetings are normal within the framework of our cooperation and this extraordinary alliance of all for change. On May 15, most of the leaders belong to change and the United Opposition, and without doubt, even the vast majority of municipal councils will belong to the opposition,” said Meta, a former president.
The meeting Meta-Berisha was held as the deadline for the registration of party coalitions for the May 14 local elections – the submission of documents to the Central Elections Commission (CEC) – is approaching, since March 15 is the final date when political parties must submit their formula and with whom they will be in coalition.
In the meantime, DP Chairman Sali Berisha said on Monday that new developments within the opposition coalition for the local elections are expected to be communicated on Tuesday.
“There is a decision of the DP National Council according to which our party enters these elections in a coalition,” said Berisha.
“There is a coalition with Ilir Meta, the first of all, according to which the Freedom Party is committed to supporting our candidates throughout Albania. This coalition will recognize other new developments and the new developments of this coalition will be communicated tomorrow. We are convinced that the coalition is the terror of Edi Rama. Edi Rama is terrified by these elections,” said the DP chairman after the meeting with the FP head, Ilir Meta.
Meanwhile, the Complaints and Sanctions Commission reviewed on Monday the elements of the form and content of the appeal requests filed in the CEC and decided not to pass for review the appeal request filed by the Democratic Party, headed by Sali Berisha.
The CEC also decided not to review the appeal filed by the DP faction headed by Enkelejd Alibeaj, who has replaced the resigned DP head Lulzim Basha whose whereabouts are not known as he has not been seen in public since long. /Argumentum.al
