TIRANA, March 16 – Prime Minister Edi Rama has said that the justice reform is showing that the time of the untouchables and those sheltered under the umbrella of power is over.
Rama made that statement at the joint press conference in Tirana on Thursday with the two top EU officials, Josep Borrell and Oliver Varhelyi.
“Justice in Albania, the new institutions, SPAK, are hitting people and individuals connected to power, isn’t it? But these first ones are more important than others,” said Rama.
The PM was proud that Albania is the only country in the region that has made this reform and taken this step. He knew of no other country in the region where justice strikes without looking left and right, but only straight.
“Anyone who has to deal with justice must get a lawyer. SP that governs, the government, does not provide legal services to anyone and this is a significant achievement of Albania,” said Rama.
In the meantime, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, called the holding in Tirana of the 12th meeting of the Stabilization-Association Council between the European Union and Albania, a special opportunity.
“With this we want to give a strong political signal for the EU’s commitment to the Albanian journey as a member of the EU,” he said, adding that through these meetings they take into consideration the progress related to the preparations for membership, examine what is done, they discuss where more effort is needed and what work they still have ahead of them. “The main message from this meeting of this Council is our steadfast commitment to the European integration of Albania.”
He said that Albania has shown a strong commitment to the necessary reforms and has reached important milestones, especially in the field of justice
“Albanian institutions must speed up reforms based on the massive support of the Albanian people for European integration. We had the opportunity to welcome Prime Minister Rama’s decision that golden passports will not be approved,” said Borrell.
In addition he said that the EU has included all the partners and countries of the Western Balkans in its policies for mitigating the negative impact of the Russian war against Ukraine. /Argumentum.al
